Delhi leads to be the luxury capital of India

India is slowly and gradually accepting luxury and increasing the space for luxury in India. According to a recent report by Cushman & Wakefield, luxury in India will acquire 1.44 per cent of the total retail market by 2015 as against one per cent currently, while the total retail malls stock is set to increase by 27 per cent by 2015.

Highlighting the changing luxury retail scenario in India, the report suggests that total current operational mall space in the organised retail sector across the top seven cities of India is estimated at 66 million (approx.) sq. ft. of which luxury retail space is only 770,000 sq. ft.

Of the seven cities, Delhi/NCR leads the space acquisition at 38 per cent, followed by 21 per cent in Mumbai and 17 per cent in Bengaluru.Due to a strong mall culture and fashion hubs in the country, NCR and Mumbai lead the show while a great level of disposable incomes and a leading IT hub Bengaluru has become the third best destination. Consumer spending dips: India Ratings; iGrow says “really”

India Ratings has unveiled its mid-year outlook for retail in 2013 and they say its negative. The report says, “India Ratings & Research (Ind-Ra) has maintained a negative outlook on the retail sector for H213. Higher inflation and marginal nominal wage growth are expected to act as major deterrents for consumer spending. The report suggests, the FY13 private final consumption expenditure (PFCE) growth rate was at an eight year low. The agency does not expect any significant improvement in PFCE for H213. Moreover, with no chances of considerable hike in wages, the inflation rates are going to be high for consumers.

iGrow thinks: “Its funny but we see malls and markets flooded. Tata Trent says no to malls for Star Bazaar; breaks ties with Xander Group

Tata Trent, the retail arm of Tata Group, has ended its six year old agreement with Xander Group, which funded its stores opening across malls. The arm now plans to open standalone Star Bazaar stores and not restrict itself to malls.

Unfortunately, Tata Trent which has a  franchise and a wholesale supply arrangement with Tesco Plc, could not open any Star Bazaar in 2012-13 as they all were located in malls. Pop up stores are step ahead of reaching customers all out, especially who don’t shop online, along with giving a sense of connect to the existing members.
We have all heard about consumers shopping online, but the question lies that have e-retailers tapped an ample number there? A prompt answer to this would be no. The number of online buyers India has is only mere 10 per cent of the total internet users in the country followed by people who don’t use internet at all.
