Inorbit Mall opens at Vadodara; brings 30 new brands to the city

Inorbit Malls, a part of K Raheja Group, opens its first mall in Gujarat and sixth in the country. Located in Vadodara, off the Genda Circle, Gowda Road, the mall is all set to bring in a retail space of 4.74 lakh square (total build up area) and nearly 30 new brands to the city. Some of the anchor names include Hypercity, Shoppers Stop and Marks & Spencer.

With this new mall, the group now has an operational retail space of 31 lakh sq ft and with a successful entry in Vadodara aims to take Inorbit to tier II and III cities including Mysore in Karnataka, Coimbatore in Tamilnadu and Nagpur. The only focus will be strong catchment areas.

The mall has been built at a cost of Rs 300 crore.

So this weekend as I went shopping, I thought of going to Moments Mall, Kirti Nagar (after a long time). Generally when I walk into the mall, I see Fast Trax outlet standing in a space designed protruding outside the mall’s rectangular design. I remember coming for the store launch in mid-2012, which also saw some of the team members of Kings XI Punjab.

But to my surprise when I walked into the mall on Saturday, I saw the store was closed and the space was covered with mall’s flex ensuring that there will be an eating joint coming up soon. Even Just Dial tells that the outlet is shut.

Bijou Kurien bids adieu to Reliance Retail’s lifestyle arm

One of the key names in Indian retail industry, Bijou Kurien steps down from his post of President & CEO, Reliance Retail Lifestyle Division. He has been a part of one of India’s leading retail conglomerate from past seven years and will also quit from the boards of the joint ventures with UK’s Marks & Spencer’s and Vision Express, among others.

IMG_7570Kurien, 54, plans to take a break for personal reason and will be pursuing other options after the break. He had spent nearly two decades at Titan Industries before joining Reliance Retail.

Kurien, currently, also serves as the Chairman of FICCI’s Retail Committee.


Marks & Spencer opens three stores in Mumbai; doubles retail presence

The new age fashion brand, with different in-house brands under its kitty, Marks & Spencer’s has opened three stores across Mumbai in past two months. With the strategy of opening a cluster of supporting stores around its flagship store locations, M&S has opened an 11,000 square foot store at Infinity Mall 2; an 18,000 square foot standalone high street store at Lokhandwala; and a 22,000 square foot store at Viva City shopping mall in Thane – its first store in the Mumbai suburb, respectively.

The three new stores have doubled its retail presence in Mumbai to six and 33 stores across the country.
