India gears up for Great Online Shopping Festival

Tomorrow is indeed a day to remember, not just because its 11.12.13, but also a day to splurge online as Google announces the launch of Great Online Shopping Festival (gosf.in). The festival will go on from 11.12.13 to 13.12.13.

This year the 72 hour shopping festival has gone bigger has the categories participating includes eading eCommerce players, local & classified companies, online travel sites, auto companies, telecom companies, fashion labels, health and well being companies, to banking financial Services. Consumers can avail great discounts and deals.

The initiative was launched by Google last year to boost the adoption of online shopping in India and saw tremendous response with most players seeing over 350 percent growth in daily sales. The festival saw participation from all over India with 50 percent buyers making a online purchase for the first time. Speaking about the momentum of online shopping in India, Rajan Anandan, VP & Managing Director, Google India said, “Great Online shopping festival is India’s version of cyber monday in the west and is an exciting platform to raise awareness and consumer adoption of online shopping in India. With over 200 million Internet users in the country, more and more Internet users are opting to shop online and fueling the growth of both large multinational and homegrown companies. Industry estimates suggests that there are close to 20 million online shoppers in India and its estimated to grow to 50 million in next few years making it a 16 billion dollar industry.”


Buyers can look forward to exciting deals across categories. Great Online shopping festival promises to offer something for everyone with great discounts on footwear, imported cars, property deals, holiday packages, insurance, spa packages, event tickets, grocery coupons, books, jewellery etc. Buyers can find discounts ranging from 20% up to 80% in many categories. Upto 60% off on luxury watches, 20% off on air tickets on domestic routes, upto 50 % off on speakers, headphones and men’s accessories, upto 80% off on home decor, flat 40% off on furniture, upto 50% off on TVs, upto 40% on mobile phones, upto 45% computers and tablets, upto 30% on cameras, 40% off on mens footwear and many more.


Inorbit Mall opens at Vadodara; brings 30 new brands to the city

Inorbit Malls, a part of K Raheja Group, opens its first mall in Gujarat and sixth in the country. Located in Vadodara, off the Genda Circle, Gowda Road, the mall is all set to bring in a retail space of 4.74 lakh square (total build up area) and nearly 30 new brands to the city. Some of the anchor names include Hypercity, Shoppers Stop and Marks & Spencer.

With this new mall, the group now has an operational retail space of 31 lakh sq ft and with a successful entry in Vadodara aims to take Inorbit to tier II and III cities including Mysore in Karnataka, Coimbatore in Tamilnadu and Nagpur. The only focus will be strong catchment areas.

The mall has been built at a cost of Rs 300 crore.


It’s a kids’ world – KidsKinder Dreams enters Indian retail arena

An Indo-German JV, KidsKinder Dreams India has made its entry into the Indian retail market. The JV which is geared to bring to India some of the leading baby care products and toys, has tied up with premium product manufacturers with the highest status in international markets.

The brands that the company will bring in include Bubchen, HABA, JAMARA, NICI, Playmobil and Rebel Kidz. The first stint with retail will be through the e-commerce marketplace, Flipkart.


The JV plans to invest  Rs 100 million over the next two years to hard-sell German toys and child care brands in 25 cities across India. In terms of retail presence, the company will open six stores across Bangalore by March 2014 and 25 stores across tier-I and tier-II cities by 2015. The retail journey which will begin from Bangalore will further expand to other metros by FY-2014-15, and in tier II cities include Pune, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and among others by FY 2015-16 through stores, franchises and distributing partners.

After South its West Delhi for Forever 21; second store opens at Pacific Mall

After a successful re-entry and opening the first store at DLF Place Saket last month, Forever 21, has launched its second store at the Pacific Mall , Tagore Garden in the capital. The store was launched by actress Yaami Gautam of the Vicky Donor fame.

The store will be spread across two-levels, spanning over15,500 sq ft.

The fashion apparel and accessories brand, Forever 21 has chosen West Delhi as its new destination, especially Pacific Mall, which targets the audience in the region which used to travel to South Delhi earlier to shop for premium brands.

Hidesign launches first exclusive boutique at VR Surat

The premium leather handbags and accessories brand, Hidesign, launches its first exclusive boutique at new community-oriented premium lifestyle shopping center, VR Surat.

The boutique is located in The Runway, VR Surat’s international standard fashion arena which is dotted with several first time international brands that have debuted in Surat, Hidesign’s exclusive boutique will retail its signature premium leather accessories. Maspar opens exclusive store at Mathura Road

The premium home furnishing brand, Maspar (maspar) has opened its fifth exclusive store in Delhi/NCR region at Mathura Road. The brand known for its home décor brands in woven fabrics, maspar targets the urban educated Indian with an inclination towards modern and luxurious living.

Maspar has three stores in Delhi each at Select city Walk, Saket, South Extension-II and Mathura Road respectively and one each in Noida and Gurgaon.

Forever 21 to open second store on Aug 14 at Pacific Mall

With a recent gala launch of Forever 21 at DLF Place Saket, consumers have well taken the brand. Re-launching with DLF Brands as its new partner, Forever 21, is all set to open its second store on 14th August 2013 at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden.

While the first store was launched by Bollywood hearthrob Siddharth Malhotra, the second store will be launched by Vicky Donor famed Yami Gautam. The event will also see Timmy Sarna, MD, DLF Brands and Alex Ok, President, Forever 21.

Luxury swiss brand Richemont to invest $25mn in India

Leveraging the Indian policy of 100 per cent FDI in single brand retail, the Swiss luxury brand Richemont aims at opening stores in the country. The officials of retail brand, which owns brands like Cartier, Van Cleef, Arpels, Piaget, and Panerai, have met Commerce Minister Anand Sharma.


The company plans to set up a 100 percent subsidiary in India by investing about USD 25 million initially and will further expand the same depending upon the response.  According to CNBC – TV18, it has also sought a clarification on sub-brands as it has several brands like Montblanc or Cartier.

The company will look at opening 100 per cent owned stores and will plan to source polished diamonds from India.

Toni & Guy brings to India ‘Hair Meets Wardrobe’

Toni & Guy, a renowned name in haircare and wellness, which has been now present in India for a long time through its salons now brings to India its professional brand, Hair Meets Wardrobe.

The range of products is defined by three categories Glamour, Classic, Casual and Creative. The brand was launched by three actresses including Soha Ali Khan who represented Glamour, Mallaika Arora Khan who represented Classic and Anusha Dandekar who represented Creative.




Reebok aims to re-position as multi-fitness brand; breaks ties with e-retailers

Reebok in an year’s time, especially after the scam by then MD (Shubhinder Singh Prem), has lost a lot in terms of consumer interest and loyalty. Who were the gainers? Puma and Nike.

Moreover, this image has been further degraded by online retailers who have been selling Reebok products at discounts as low as 70 per cent, making it a mass brand rather than a brand which is need specific. These products have been stocked last year which is being sold till date at dead low prices, as low as Rs 399.

The brand, after seeing an all time low in brand image, now plans to bring back the brand premiumness with its new management by Adidas group worldwide. Now the brand looks at liquidating its old merchandise and re-position the brand as  multi-fitness brand.
