In 2007, the sales through food retailers proved the most lucrative distribution method for the Indian food retail industry, generating total revenues of $131.8billion – 65.8 per cent of the industry’s overall value.
The electronic major, Sony India, now plans to tap smaller towns with a new range of Bravia TV with a starting price Rs 15,000. With a potential of volumes from tier II and tier III cities, the company will still focus on metros where sales of high-end products will push revenue margins.

The value fashion retailer, V-Mart, has unveiled its plans of opening up 28 new stores. The plan is a part of its expansion strategy post IPO launch in February 2013. The new stores will be opened in Tier II and Tier III cities in order to penetrate further in these cities. The expansion has begun with Dehradun where it opens its first store.
